Food, whānau and everyday experiences
Fresh food and real experiences
Food is an important part of our day and another opportunity for children to participate in real-life experiences.
From our kitchen
Meals freshly prepared by our cook.
Our cook provides children with nutritious meals and a welcoming shared experience. Children also have opportunities to be involved in food experiences such as bread making and, occasionally, helping to prepare fruit for morning tea.

Food and nature
Connecting food with nature
Our fruit trees provide another opportunity for children to connect food with nature, gathering fruit and experiencing the excitement of discovering and tasting what grows around them.
These everyday experiences support
- independence
- communication
- cooperation
- an understanding of where food comes from

Whānau
Working together with whānau
We value strong relationships with whānau and recognise that families know their children best.
We want families to feel welcomed, listened to and involved in their child's learning and development.
We share children's experiences, celebrate their progress and work together to support their wellbeing, confidence and transition through the different stages of early childhood.
The Farmyard is
- A place to get muddy.
- A place to care for animals.
- A place to explore nature.
- A place to get involved in gardening.
- A place to make bread.
- A place to climb, run, create and discover.
- A place to build friendships.
- A place to develop independence.
- A place to grow in confidence.
- A place to belong.
- A place to enjoy childhood.
