SUSTAINABILITY

We allow each child to explore and appreciate the importance of caring for their environment and living sustainably. The Farmyard is invested in the future of our children and the world that they are and will be a part of.

OUR ARCHITECTURE

Our architecture creates an ideal environment for our children while minimising our impact on the world around us.

The Farmyard is based in an architecturally designed eco-building, featuring five spacious rooms connected by a central dining area.

Natural materials reflect the outside environment in a warm comfortable interior where warmth is drawn from the large woodburner which runs the underfloor heating and wetback.

GROWING TO CONSUME

We teach our children the importance of healthy soil, created with compost to keep the beneficial bugs active and worm juice harvested from worm farms fed by our own organic waste.

The children grow and plant seedlings, nurture young plants, and harvest their own produce.

Then they work together to create a variety of meals from the produce they have grown, allowing homegrown food and freshly prepared meals to nurture their senses while sustaining their bodies.

A COMMITMENT TO ZERO WASTE

Our commitment to zero waste shapes the way that we manage our lives at The Farmyard and the decisions we make when we consume products

We only use washable cloth nappies.

We ensure that all materials are put to work – vegetables are harvested and any leftovers or waste are turned into compost or food for the animals, wood comes from the land for many uses, and even the wool from our sheep is spun and used in handcrafts.

We are committed to putting no waste into landfill.

OUR SCHOOL

The Farmyard offers a rural discovery-based sustainable early learning environment, which is inspired by Waldorf/Steiner education.
Our educational goals aim to provide a well-balanced programme of learning and development through participatory hands-on experiences which encourage resilience, and guide investigation to motivate a love of lifelong learning.
